Strengthening Your Relationship When the World Has Changed
Even if you and your partner are getting closer to the lifestyle you had before the pandemic, the fact is the world has changed. The pandemic is still impacting virtually every industry, and the average American has quite a different routine than they did before.
And let’s not ignore the fact that the last year and a half has put a strain on countless romantic relationships. If you and your partner are having trouble navigating the new normal, consider these practical tips from YesUcanCoaching for strengthening your relationship right now!
Embracing New Routines
If you and your partner are working from home more often, or you’re simply not going out as much, take this opportunity to create new routines.
● Establish boundaries with your work hours so that you can prioritize time together. This may call for being more productive during your work day, so be sure you have a good system in place to efficiently manage incoming information to avoid organizational overload.
● Spend time outdoors, whether it’s going for a walk, sitting on the patio, or tending to your garden.
● Stay connected to family and friends. It’s not healthy if you and your partner are solely relying on one another for all of your emotional needs.
● If you have kids, work together to develop schedules so that neither one of you becomes overwhelmed.
Keeping the Fire Alive
It’s also essential that you and your partner are intentional about recapturing the magic of the early days when it’s necessary.
● Keep dating by trying activities that are new to both of you.
● Plan movie nights where you relax on the couch and watch a romantic flick.
● Take the weekend to stay at a vacation rental and rekindle your passion.
● Pay attention to the positive aspects of your relationship and signs of growth rather than focusing on the negative things.
● If you or your partner (or both) become bored, use it as an opportunity to spice things up with a new activity or routine.
Fostering Your Individual Well-Being
Finally, both of you should be taking steps each day to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
● Eat a balanced diet that contains all the nutrition your body needs. Fortunately, there are more food delivery services than ever before that make this convenient!
● Find a fitness routine that you enjoy. If both of you like similar exercises, work out together.
● Get at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you are struggling to get the sleep you need, find calming activities to do at night (e.g., yoga stretches, long showers, meditating, etc.).
● Moreover, be sure to carve out some downtime for yourself. Reading a book, writing in a journal, relaxing at the spa, or doing other activities in solitude can do wonders for helping you feel recharged. To foster a quiet, relaxing and stress-free environment in your home, be sure that your living space isn’t filled with bad energy; create a place that’s free of clutter, is organized, and has a few houseplants throughout.
You are not the only couple who has had your relationship tested during the pandemic. But if you want things to get better, you must start making the necessary changes today and be intentional about remembering why you fell in love in the first place. A lot goes into keeping a relationship thriving, but following the tips above will get you off to a great start!
